August Announcements

August 3, 5-7pm, Awards Reception for the Summer Juried Show. You have not missed the opening. Summer show receptions are Friday evenings!

August 4, Saturday 1-5 pm, Creatures in Wire Workshop by David Masch, $25 members and $35 non-members. Create whimsical or "real" fish bent from armature wire. Bring needle-nosed pliers - all other materials supplied. Learn from David's 30 years of experience fashioning watery wire creatures.

NEW August 11 & 12, Saturday & Sunday, 9 - 3pm, Making Greens Work for You: Landscape Painting from Photos by Julie Olander. $175 members, $200 non-members. Level: For Advanced Beginners and Intermediate Watercolor or Acrylic Painters. This workshop is all about color and value and how to use it to make your landscapes have more atmosphere and depth. We will do color mixing exercises to help students discover new greens. We will study the value of different greens, yellows, blues, etc, and learn which are warm and cool, intense or dull, as well as where to use them. Students will learn to interpret value studies from looking at color landscape photos.

NEW August 18 & 19, Saturday & Sunday, 9 - 3pm, Making Greens Work for You: Landscape Painting in Real Life by Julie Olander. $175 members, $200 non-members. Level: For Advanced Beginners and Intermediate Watercolor or Acrylic Painters. Being out of doors can be overwhelming to a new student being surrounded by green in all directions. Julie will show you how to simplify and analyze "your" landscape, and make the greens work for you in the 'real world'. All students should have good drawing skills, and be able to do a value sketch in less than 10 minutes, along with completion of at least 10 landscape paintings.

August 18 & 19, 1-4pm, Work with Alfie Glover AT HIS STUDIO, $125 members and $150 non-members. Create a project of your choice, an embellished mirror frame, rustic chair or trellis. Alfie supplies all the tools, so NO experience is necessary! 

August 21, Receiving for the Members Show: Anything Goes.

August 25, 9:30am - 3:30pm, Basics of Digital Photography by Chris Linder, $60 members, $70 non-members. This is your last chance to take this highly acclaimed class - great instruction and hand-outs. Chris is moving to Seattle!

August 27 - 29, Monday - Wednesday, 9:30am - 3:30pm, En Plein Air Watercolor Painting by Nancy Sargent Howell, at Nicki Garner's waterfront house. $200 members, $225 non members. A perennial favorite.
